“The Clean Slate Act can change these outcomes by allowing people to move beyond their conviction histories. A Michigan study found that individuals’ wages increased by an average of 22 percent within one year of clearing their conviction record. The same study found that over the five years after their records were cleared, individuals were less likely to commit a crime than members of the general public. Clean Slate can create the same kinds of outcomes. And we know that when people can support themselves and their families, their chances of staying out of the criminal system increase.”
